Yay! It’s the school holidays and Prema figured that every family could do with an end-of-term treat. And so here’s an evening’s entertainment for the whole family in the shape of two wonderful, family-friendly shows – Dr Russet’s Travelling Medicine Show from Curious Company and The Attack of the 50ft Woman from Croon Productions. The proceedings start on the chimes of seven and you’ll be home in time for bedtime at nine. Bring food to share as we’ll have a break for supper between the two shows.
Dr Russet’s Travelling Medicine Show
Here’s a thrilling new spectacle of physical theatre, live music, dance and song. Dusty Boe Russet, a Doctor of questionable qualification and purveyor of “Russet’s Homespun Wonder Tonics” arrives in town in a rickety mobile theatre, accompanied by this troupe – the Ballyhoo Allstars – and sets about working his patter to draw in the crowd. Once in his grip, then we shall begin … With indomitable spirit, the all-singing Doctor, assisted by the chanteuse Diggie Mauve, leads a sequence of acts, each demonstrating the efficacy of the particular elixir. A sumptuous blend of jazz, folk and blues (with just a soupcon of hip hop and rockabilly) underscores the dance routines; incorporating glimpses of Charleston, tap and dance apache. Look out for a guest appearance from renowned gangsters Bonnie & Clyde and a stunning sideshow of curiosities and oddities. All together – it’s mad as cheese. However, it’s a rip-roaring night out for all families with young theatre explorers over the age of seven!
Attack of the 50ft Woman
Croon Productions show is a live puppet performance reminiscent of the cult 1950’s sci-fi film. During the show, amidst TV reports of worldwide sightings of Unidentified Flying Objects, our heroine has a terrifying encounter with an alien, while her double-crossing husband plots to seize her fortune with his floozy. But will our heroine get her revenge? You bet she will: Hell hath no fury like a 50ft woman scorned.
