Two Destination Language

Katherina Radeva and Alister Lownie share interests in a variety of contemporary performance practices, traversing art and theatre.

Live art, drama and movement have their place in both artists’ histories. A belief that live work should have its audience at its core, and that artists should strive to create stimulating experiences for their audiences, is the foundation of their collaborative practice, Two Destination Language.

Their first work, Burning Black, was developed as artists-in-residence at South Hill Park (Bracknell), and subsequently shown at greenroom (Manchester) and the University of Winchester. It uses fire to explore ideas of community and renewal, creating a contemporary ritual. Burning Black is the first of a tetralogy of works based on the elements. The second, Blue, which is under development, explores water.

Community, identity and memory are the ideas which percolate all Two Destination Language work: an interest in boundaries and otherness, belonging and personal history. For the artists, community is a corollary of performative work, and it is a pleasure to share in its exploration.

Both Alister and Katherina have their own practices which naturally feed into their collaboration – for more information, see www.digame.org.uk andwww.katherinaradeva.co.uk.
