Through a fusion of DANCE MOVEMENT and THEATRE Tattered Butterfly Arts is about bringing to life the creative potential we each hold - and putting it to work.  

Its work acknowledges the cyclical relationship between us as creative beings - and creation itself.  It examines deeply the nature of creativity, how it exists because of creation and is a part of that mix.  

In the context of living with climate change, it explores how we might realign, re-negotiate and rebuild a positive relationship with our natural world.

For if we are to live a creative, sustainable life and 

leave that legacy behind for our children  -

then this relationship has to be looked to  

and is the only place to start.    

A vital undercurrent to all work is inspired through the profound life ways and art forms of the worlds ancient and indigenous peoples.  Yet, although Tattered Butterfly Arts is influenced by the ancient, it is concerned with developing new artistic forms that speak with a pertinent voice for the issues of the world today.  

Since 1999, a comprehensive DANCE MOVEMENT / THEATRE form has evolved.  This is namely, SPIDERFLOWER.  It sits as the underlying foundation and teaching structure for any body of work.

Tattered Butterfly Arts holds 2 main strands of focus in its delivery.  The first is through active PARTICIPATION.  Here, THE DANCE FORM belonging to SPIDERFLOWER is the key element - dancers come on in, and it is their space to explore.  

Accessible classes and workshops cater for WOMEN only, CHILDREN and PARENTS and MIXED ADULT GROUPS.

COURSES and TRAINING PROGRAMMES are available for those in business, creative roles or leadership.  Specialist courses can be offered to actors and artists.

Second is THEATRE.  This element brings all developing strands together.  In a language that is universal and timeless, it seeks to draw people, community and artists from every culture to create a unique and collaborative forum.  The Theatrical element of Tattered Butterfly Arts has developed a unique performance process and theatre form, that is evolved directly out of SPIDERFLOWER.  In creating production for an audience, the structures of Spiderflower inform both content, and context of any major body of work.  As a whole, the theatrical element of Tattered Butterfly Arts evolves through a process of audience exchange, encouraging audience inter-action - it is an inclusive company.

For audience members who are touched by, and want to then enter into the work.  It is for them to step into PARTICIPATION.  We begin a cycle of exchange.  Tattered Butterfly Arts listens to its audience.  Through weaving between cycles of PARTICIPATION and production, so does Tattered Butterfly Arts evolve with the intention of always providing projects that are important to the community it serves.

Tattered Butterfly Arts is dedicated to inspiring and empowering a global community, of every age from 0 - 100 - that has a care for this fragile earth.
