As the Arts Council once said about Prema “its programme is the envy of many a metropolitan venue”.

Prema is a forward-looking, feisty little organisation which offers the many communities of Gloucestershire the opportunity to interface with quality, innovative live work through theatre, dance and live music. Its theatre programme has a distinct contemporary flavour – often favouring live animated theatre, physical theatre, non-narrative work, visual theatre and live art.

The theatre space is relatively small – absolute max of 120 capacity but for theatre and dance work, this often restricted to 60 or so audience. This makes for a very intimate engagement between performer and audience – making for a daring experience for both.

Due to the nature of the arts centre, the theatre space is also a gallery, teaching and participatory arts room. The space is essentially a white box with one end blunted off to a half-hexagon.

The building itself (a former Georgian Baptist Chapel, constructed in 1821) has an immediate appeal for visiting performer and audience member. The space and staff are friendly and approachable.
