Making Your Mark is a training scheme for young people aged 18 to 25. The two successful applicants will learn and apply a range of making and design skills and get involved in some of the big performances and celebrations planned for 2012. These include the Olympic Torch Evening celebrations at the Somerset Cricket ground and a big show on Weymouth beach called ‘The Battle for the Winds’. www.battleforthewinds.com
The project is funded by Somerset County Council and Arts Council England, and is part of a range of ideas to help develop the creative industries and outdoor performance in Somerset and the South West.
Areas covered in the project include set and prop creation, processional devices, cycle and electric power, sound, lighting, music and performance The project will also be exploring sustainable technologies and electric power.
Making posts will start on start March 19th with a deadline for application on Feb 25thth. Applicants should send us a brief description of themselves and why they are interested in the project. Trainees will be offered a minimum of 20 days work on the project with some help towards travel and other expenses.
Making Your Mark is part of ‘Celebrating Somerset’, a programme for 2012, promoting the county and its creative sector. Celebrating Somerset has been awarded an ‘Inspire Mark’ as part of this programme. There will also be a performance bursary and two musicians posts already filled
