Live Dates: 18 Feb, 17 March
Intensive day workshops followed by an informal milonga (an evening dance) for the participants...
with Biljana Lipic
An ongoing workshop space for those interested in exploring, sharing and reflecting upon the colours and shades of our humanity through the language of Argentine tango. Our aims will be nothing more and nothing less than to be more playful, more present to each other and more fully ourselves!
Working with tango as a portal through which we are able to experience unity and community, whilst also allowing our desire for freedom to challenge and temper the same - we shall be asking ourselves what does it mean to be both intimate and creative and how can we embody a full response-ability as well as total freedom.
Questioning, dancing, playing, sharing - this will be a space in which to delve deeper into our creativity as also the core of our humanity. For our explorations we shall mainly use tango movement vocabulary, although at times we may dive into a different context of creative body work as well.
The workshops are open to all level dancers, including those who wish to try tango for the first time. Please bring food to share for lunch. Also, please note we shall be working without shoes - so please bring good socks!
Biljana is a teacher, artist and director who has played a pioneering role in setting up tango communities and cultural scenes throughout UK and Europe. She is a widely known leader of workshops with 18 years of experience. Besides tango she has trained in shamanism, martial arts, yoga, theatre techniques and other body-mind methods. Her approach to learning and creative expression is fresh and contemporary, whilst also being deeply rooted in tradition, poetic relationship to nature and a holistic approach to human experience.
“I loved your workshop. It struck me that you really take care of the human being and as a result everybody was completely at ease. And that is a great starting point not just for improving tango technique but for adventures beyond what I thought was possible. I came away not just refreshed but enriched with wonderful insights and relationships, plus with much better tango too!”- Kim Bour
“The first time you meet Biljana you feel like you have been her friend all your life. She has that very rare gift of being completely open hearted, warm and welcoming. I love going to her workshops which are challenging at times but always fun. I leave feeling much enriched; that the time spent was not enough, and looking forward to the next adventure.” - Nicky Scott
"Biljana is a great instructor with profound understanding of the dance, inspiring enthusiasm and passion.. I took three classes from her and loved them all. She was not just teaching steps, but spent a lot of efforts helping students to understand the movement itself... how it is generated within our bodies, how different parts of the body work together to produce smooth, relaxed and enjoyable movement.. I found it very inspiring and refreshing." - Sasha, Anchorage
